You and Your Employees Count: What Businesses Need to Know About the
2010 Census.
The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10
years. In 2010, the U.S. census will define who we are as a nation.
In February and March this year, a Census questionnaire will be
mailed or delivered to all U.S. households. It is very important
that as U.S. Citizen and resident of our area, you take the time to
fill out this short questionnaire. It is simple and easy to
complete, asking only a few questions. Your information will not be
shared with anyone including any other governmental agency. The
census affects political representation and directs the allocation
of billions of dollars in government funding. As a trusted business
leader in the Chamber of Commerce, you can help educate your
employees and customers about the importance of completing and
returning their census questionnaires- to ensure no one is left
uncounted.
Why You Should Care?
Census data will help shape the future of our community and define
our voice in Congress for the next ten years.
Census data will help determine and direct federal funding,
strengthening our community. A stronger local economy benefits your
business by making it easier to attract employees and sell your
products and services.
The census determines how many seats each state including Ohio
will have in the U.S. House of Representatives. We know that we are
more likely to receive federal funds if we have more U.S.
Representatives representing our state.
Census information can assist your business as you make informed
operational and marketing decisions. It also helps our community
leaders determine locations for new roads and other public
infrastructure projects that could help your business.
How Difficult is the Census Questionnaire to Complete?
Its Simple and Safe!
The 2010 census asks only a few simple questions of each person-
name, relationship, gender, age, and date of birth, race and whether
the respondent owns or rents his home.
This questionnaire is simple and short taking just a few minutes
to compete and return by mail.
The Census Bureau does not release or share information that
identifies individual respondents or their households.
How Can You Help?
As a business leader, you can convey the importance of completing
the census to you employees, your customers, and other business and
community associates.
As a business leader, you can communicate census messages in
newsletters, building lobbies and on line, sponsor company events,
and develop targeted materials for census promotion.
As a business leader, you can communicate the importance of the
census to other organizations you are involved in. Through
partnerships, the Census Bureau has a far greater chance to reach
every local resident than by attempting this task on their own.
Please join us as we help get the word out of the importance of
every citizen completing and returning the 2010 census
questionnaire. In helping the community, you help your business. The
data collected from the census will help determine where more than
the $400 billion/year in federal funds are awarded to states and
local communities. Thats more than $4 trillion over a 10-year
period. It is very important that every citizen is counted. We will
all benefit if the total number of local citizens is counted! We
need your help! Thanks for your partnership. For more information on
