At the present time there over 16 million refugees worldwide registered with the United Nations. The United States will welcome nearly 50,000 refugees this year, and in 2016 over 4,000 refugees were resettled in Ohio. While refugees are among us, in many cases they may be invisible and their voices not heard. This program offers the opportunity for us to hear the voices of women refugees living in Southwest Ohio. Invitations have been made to refugees from a variety of areas including Bhutan, Burundi, Myanmar, Iraq and Syria. By hearing refugee voices Southwest Ohio moves closer to becoming a welcoming community for refugees. This event is open to the wider community. Sponsored by the Miami University Regionals, the National Underground Railroad and Freedom Center, the Office of the Regional Director of Diversity and Multicultural Services, the Humanities Center, the Office of the Regional Associate Dean of Student and Academic Success, the Refugee Action Committee, and the Refugee Advisory Council.
