We are a non profit organization in Hamilton that is serving mostly foster children in Butler County and surrounding areas. We serve children who have endured childhood trauma, including suffered loss, neglect, abandonment and abuse. Through animal assisted therapy, we create a safe therapeutic environment to help these children overcome their fear, loss, and trauma. We use an amazing curriculum that is specifically written for children in foster care and orphanages. The kids in our program come once or twice a week for a couple hours. They each have a child advocate to play with their animals, then they rotate to the studio for drinks, snacks and a lesson from their curriculum/ therapist, then they meet with their family and therapist to discuss progress and weekly goals.
Therapy animals provide a purely nonjudgmental space for individuals to work out their problems, resulting in behavioral improvement in children. The presence of animals and that unspoken connection with them is soothing and can more quickly build rapport between therapist and child! Therapy animals assist therapists in helping children with a multitude of goals such as improving self-esteem and developing social skills, as well as providing help for anxiety and PTSD. Hopefull Pastures Therapeutic Farm works with the foster family and biological families as well, serving as a listening ear and a place where resources can be found.

View Personal BioMs. JoAnna SesterHi! My name is JoAnna Sester and I volunteer with HOPEfull Pastures Therapeutic Farm as their grant writer! I love this non profit organization because I love animals and I love children! I have a heart for those children who have experienced trauma in their lives. As a foster and adoptive parent myself, I have seen the HUGE need for therapeutic services for these children. HOPEfull Pastures is able to fill this need through animal assisted therapy by providing a therapeutic environment to help vulnerable youth overcome fear, loss, and trauma. Children are signed up for weekly sessions with an advocate or therapist and work with their animals, animal care, bonding, building trust, play and purposeful conversation and then using curriculum written especially for foster children and orphans that promotes healing. I am so happy to be volunteering my time to help these children and families!Tell a Friend
