Miami University Regionals’ Hamilton Campus Conservatory Garden Fest
This year’s theme focuses on Foodscaping: Interspersing Edibles in the Ornamental Garden. Regionals students Emma Boggs (Nursing) and Ashley Cornett (Integrative Studies) spearheaded the campus’s involvement in the All-American Selections Landscape Design Challenge. Garden Fest activities will include educational sessions on container vegetable gardening and foodscaping; conservatory tours; and kids’ activities, potting a plant to take home, a Conservatory scavenger hunt, prairie seed collecting, and lawn games. A cook-off competition will feature city and campus leaders, assisted by Butler Tech Culinary Arts program students, as they prepare dishes using fresh produce from the Conservatory’s garden. Hamilton City Mayor Pat Moeller, Hamilton City Schools Superintendent Tony Orr, and Hamilton City Councilwoman Kathy Klink will challenge Miami Regionals administrators Cathy-Bishop Clark, Pete Haverkos, and Sue Sepela to a cook-off. Hotdog/veggie burger, soup, and a drink will be available from 12:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. with a recommended $5 donation benefitting Shared Harvest Foodbank. Every dollar donated provides seven meals for someone in need. A special thanks to the following community partners: Butler Tech, Hamilton Urban Garden Systems (HUGS), Shared Harvest Foodbank, 17Strong, Johnson Family Farms, L'Obel Plant Nursery, Ohio State University Cooperative Extension, Hamilton Campus Activities Committee and Student Government Association.
